What this archive is
The Cia-Cia Archive is a community-based record of the Cia-Cia language. It brings together a dictionary, recordings, and illustrated storybooks made from folktales, so that Cia-Cia speakers, especially children, have more of their language to hear, read and create.
Who makes it
The archive belongs first to the Cia-Cia speakers, teachers and children of Baubau, whose words, voices and drawings fill it.
It works with 정덕영 선생님 (Jeong Deok-yeong), a Korean teacher who has taught Hangul to Cia-Cia speakers in Baubau for many years, and the Cia-Cia association he founded.
The website and the children's storybook program are run by Jacob, a high-school student in Seoul who studies Indonesian and works with the teachers in Baubau, with a small team of fellow students.
Consent and care
- Every recording and photograph is shared with the consent of the people in it. For children, consent comes from their parents and school.
- Children are credited by first name or class only, and only with permission.
- Anyone who appears in the archive can ask for a correction or for their material to be removed, at any time.
